The initial ear consultation is £5. Microsuction is then £35 for one ear or £60 for both, so £40 in total for one ear and £65 for both. If the consultation shows you do not need removal, the £5 is all you pay. You pay in person at the appointment, not when you book. It is a private service, so you do not need a GP referral.

If there is no significant wax, or if what we see needs a GP rather than microsuction, we will tell you straight away and you pay just £5 for the consultation instead of the full price. Yes. Please put Olive Oil ear drops in the affected ear(s) 3 times per day for at least 5 days prior to your ear suction appointment. This is essential to soften the earwax and ensure a painless suction process. Softened wax lifts away quickly and comfortably. Hard, dry wax clings to the ear canal, takes longer to remove and may need a second visit.

Syringing and irrigation flush the ear with water and are done by feel, which can push wax deeper and is unsuitable if you have ever had a perforated eardrum. Microsuction is done by sight: our pharmacist looks into the ear canal under magnification and lifts the wax out with a fine, low-pressure suction tip. No water is used, nothing is pushed further in, and the canal stays dry, which lowers the risk of infection afterwards.

Yes. Because no water is flushed into the ear, microsuction is suitable for people with a current or previous perforated eardrum, grommets or ear surgery, and for hearing aid wearers who often build up wax quickly. We examine your ears first and will advise you to see your GP instead if there are signs of an active infection.

Common signs are muffled or dulled hearing, a feeling of fullness or pressure in the ear, itching, earache, new ringing or buzzing (tinnitus), mild dizziness, or hearing aids whistling or cutting out. Symptoms often come on gradually and affect one ear more than the other. If you have severe pain, discharge, a fever or sudden hearing loss, contact your GP or NHS 111 rather than booking wax removal.
